U-M part of group awarded $7.5 million federal mobility grant

The University of Michigan is part of a collaborative of Michigan organizations that won a $7.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to fund research, development, and testing of self-driving technologies at U-M’s Mcity Test Facility, the American Center for Mobility (ACM) in Ypsilanti, and in the City of Detroit.

The grant was awarded to the Michigan Mobility Collaborative, an umbrella group that includes the state of Michigan, the city of Detroit, U-M and ACM.

The collaborative will develop a process to evaluate the safety of automated driving systems from simulation to test tracks, according to a news release. It will also focus on future services and business models around driverless vehicles that improve the quality of life for the senior population in Detroit and cities across Michigan.
