The University of Michigan is partnering with the Michigan Economic Development Corp. (MEDC) on a pilot program to foster hiring in the electric vehicle and mobility industries by providing access to participating employers and scholarships.
About the Program
The Michigander Scholars Program, funded by MEDC’s Talent Action Program, includes U-M, Kettering University, Michigan State University, Michigan Technological University, and Wayne State University. Mcity is administering the program for U-M.
The goal is to connect engineering and computer science students potentially interested in EV and mobility careers with Michigan-based companies looking for talent, and provide scholarships to students who take positions in Michigan with participating companies. The Michigander Scholars program is open to undergraduates and graduate students on all U-M campuses.

Student Eligibility and Requirements
The Michigander Scholars Program is for students seeking:
- Networking opportunities with participating Michigan-based EV and mobility companies to learn firsthand about what they do and their available positions
- Participation in professional learning opportunities, e.g., industry speaker sessions
- Opportunity to receive a scholarship if they accept an internship or full-time position as an Electrical Engineer, Process Engineer, or Software Developer with one of the participating companies below
- Internship Award for Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors and Grad Students: $5,000
- Full-time Employee Award for Seniors and graduating Grad Students: $10,000
To be eligible, students must be:
- Studying engineering or computer science at an undergraduate or graduate level
- Interested in a career as a cybersecurity engineer, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, process engineer, systems engineer, or software developer
- Curious to learn more about the EV/mobility industry
- Willing to participate in at least two events per semester
- Enrolled at one of U-M’s three campuses: Ann Arbor, Dearborn or Flint
