Mcity Director Henry Liu is featured in an Associated Press story about the need for federal autonomous vehicle (AV) testing standards. A federal regulatory framework would contribute to innovation, Liu said, speed the deployment of AVs, and assure consumers the vehicles are safe.
“Ensuring safety is important for consumers, for autonomous vehicle developers, for the federal government as well,” Liu said in an interview for a story that was published Oct. 8. “The federal government has the responsibility to help set the minimum standard, to help provide guidance in terms of safety testing.”
AVs not only have the potential to save lives, but also to reduce emissions and improve quality of life for millions of people who do not have reliable access to transportation.
