OmniAir’s Plugfest and SAE’s AutoDrive Challenge II come to Mcity

Spring brought two big events to the Mcity Test Facility: OmniAir’s Ann Arbor Plugfest, and SAE’s AutoDrive Challenge II.

The Plugfest, held in May, drew connected vehicle device makers, test labs, and test equipment providers from around the world for a week of testing. More than a dozen test stations evaluated 18 unique on-board units, roadside unites, and modules from device makers.

SAE arrived in June with 10 student teams from colleges across the country competing in the first year of the three-year AutoDrive Challenge II. The teams are competing to develop and demonstrate a Level 4 AV that can navigate urban driving courses. SAE defines a Level 4 AV as a vehicle that can operate without any human intervention.
