Derek Johnson
Principal Engineer
As Principal Engineer, Derek Johnson is responsible for the management and oversight of Mcity’s software engineering team. The team is responsible for maintaining the software, hardware, and various networks at the Mcity Test Facility. They are also regularly adding new features so that Mcity remains the top choice for mobility researchers.
Prior to joining Mcity, Derek spent 25 years working in the software industry. He has worked on a wide range of software projects of varying scale and complexity, starting with small research projects where hardware was tightly integrated with software. From there he went on to write software for testing transmissions in the automotive industry. His next move was to work on large enterprise software systems designed to support the publishing industry. Derek is thrilled to put all of his past experience to good use at Mcity.
Derek has a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus in Digital Signal & Image Processing from Michigan Technological University.
